The Roasting Foundation course provides learners with a comprehensive understanding of the roasting process, focusing on the physical changes that occur during roasting and how to influence the sensory characteristics of coffee by adjusting the roast to be light or dark. Learners will also explore the basic structure of a roasting machine, along with general maintenance procedures and fire prevention techniques. Practical objectives and activities will guide learners to follow the trainer’s instructions for performing three different roasts, while recording relevant data and observations for each roast using an appropriate roast log. A written exam will assess the learner’s theoretical knowledge based on the course objectives.
