The Introduction to Coffee course is designed for those who are new to the world of specialty coffee. It traces coffee's journey from its beginnings in Ethiopia to its current status as a global commodity. This course provides a broad overview of the specialty coffee supply chain, covering topics such as its history and cultivation, the factors that influence coffee quality, the basics of sensory evaluation, the principles of roasting, the factors affecting coffee freshness, and brewing techniques. Additionally, participants will learn about the importance of water quality, cleanliness, and equipment maintenance. The course also includes a cupping session, a specific process used in the industry to assess coffee through sensory testing. At the end of the course, there will be an online written exam.
